A total 15 of 240 (28.4 ± 0.8 kg) crossbred pigs ((York x Landrace) x Duroc) were randomly assigned 16 to one of four dietary treatment sequences in a 5-phase grow-finish feeding program (24 17 pens, 10 pigs/pen, 6 replications/treatment). Dietary treatments consisted of corn-soybean 18 meal diets containing 0, 10, 20, or 30% DDGS. All diets were formulated to contain 19 equivalent total lysine, ME, calcium, and phosphorus levels within each phase. Pigs were 20

Alternative Feed Ingredients for Pigs
Largely due to the demand for grains for the bio-fuel industry, the cost of feed energy will increase worldwide. Therefore, alternative energy supplying pig feed ingredients should be explored, including distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), field peas, wheat shorts and liquid co-products from the bio-fuel and food industry. The inclusion of DDGS in diets is limited by the fiber concent...
متن کاملEffect of Reducing Mean Particle Size of Corn DDGS Using a Roller Mill or a Hammermill on Apparent Total Tract Digestibility of DM, GE, Nitrogen and NDF in Growing and Finishing Pigs
and Implications The aim of this study was to test if further grinding of corn DDGS is advantageous in terms of apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of DM, GE, nitrogen (N), and NDF in growing and finishing pigs. It was also tested to determine if ATTD was different between hammermill and roller mill grinding methods. There were 3 diets. Each diet consisted of 51% corn ground at 500 micron...

At each station, fortified corn-soybean meal diets containing 0, 15, 30 or 45% DDGS were fed to growingfinishing pigs in three phases. A common source of DDGS analyzing 26.3% crude protein, 0.96% lysine, and 9.7% fat was used at each station. Diets were formulated to contain 0.83, 0.70, and 0.58% true ileal digestible lysine during the three phases with diets changed at 133 and 200 lb, respecti...
متن کاملBoard-invited review: the use and application of distillers dried grains with solubles in swine diets.
Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) may be included in diets fed to pigs in all phases of production. The concentrations of DE and ME in DDGS are similar to those in corn. Phosphorus in DDGS is highly digestible to pigs and apparent total tract digestibility values of approximately 60% have been reported. The concentration of starch in DDGS is low (i.e., between 3 and 11%), but the con...
متن کاملAdding Dried Distillers Grains to Swine Diets Affects Feed Preference
Three studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) on feed intake in growing pigs. In all experiments, pigs were housed in 10.5 × 10.3 ft pens with four 1-hole feeders in each pen to allow pigs to choose from four dietary treatments. In Experiment 1, we evaluated the influence of DDGS drying method on palatability of DDGS. Diets were a control c...
